10/4/2007: Placemarks

10/3/2007: Grand Canyon trail map. We will enter at either the Bright Angel trailhead (bottom-right of map) or the Hermit trailhead (bottom-left of map). The hike will be down the canyon to the Tonto Trail. Group A will start at the Hermit trailhead and hike down on the first day. Group B will start at the Bright Angel trailhead and hike down on the first day. We will rendezvous on the Tonto Trail on the second day, and probably go down to the river. Grand Canyon trail map

9/24/2007: Hotel bookings are complete. Please check the information below for accuracy.

9/13/2007: Hotel bookings are ongoing. It is the responsibility of individuals to ensure that they have hotel arrangements made for the nights listed in the matrix below. The trip leaders will not be making group hotel reservations.

8/20/2007: Please book air transportation. If you are part of the group requiring transportation in a rental car from Las Vegas, you must arrive in Las Vegas by 4:00 pm on Sunday, October 7, and depart Las Vegas no earlier than 7:00 am on Sunday, October 14. You can arrive earlier or depart later, but our hotel reservations for the start and end of the trip will be based on when the most people will be there.

8/12/2007: Zion National Park car campsite has been reserved. We will be at the Watchman campsite at the south entrance to Zion NP, in Utah. We have Group Site E004, Loop E.

7/17/2007: Grand Canyon South Rim car campsites have been reserved. We will be at sites 300 and 301 of Mather Campground, right next to the water and "comfort station".

7/16/2007: Grand Canyon backcountry permits have been received and are now nonrefundable. $12 per person. There are two groups. Group A is led by Rob. Group B is led by Matt.

Not including consumables and equipment.

Airfare: various; should be $300-$400
Rental cars: could be around $100 per person for the whole trip (less for short itinerary or own car)
Gas: 1,273 miles, 24 mpg, $3.1/gallon - $165 per car or $40 per person.
Hotel (depends on itinerary): 2-3 nights in Las Vegas, possibly one night elsewhere. Figure $150 per person on long itinerary.
Campgrounds/wilderness permit: $5-$10 per night per person, 5 nights. $50.
Four Corners: $3 per person admission

ESTIMATED TOTAL: $700 ($550 on short itinerary)
